Soon, this lovely basket of Gala and Fuji apples will be turned into: apple bread, apple jelly and chunky crockpot applesauce.
It's quite a bit of effort--but worth it. I am known to let out a groan or two when all the baking and pureeing starts, but when I take out a loaf or a pie from the freezer six months later and have the smell fill my kitchen, the only sound you'll hear me make is: yuuuuuuuum.
Is there something you cook or bake that is a lot of work, but you couldn't be happier when you get to sit down and actually enjoy the fruit (ha!) of your labor?
There are others standing at the front of the class participating in Suzy's Show and Tell , so be sure to visit them too!
Yay for your first Show and Tell! And you picked one of my favorite topics, apples. I can't wait to hear about your baking adventures!!!
ReplyDeleteWeird, I couldn't sleep last night and was watching Good Will Hunting at 2am. Forgot that phrase was in the movie until I heard it again last night and now you have it in your title! All of your apple goods sound delicious. We used to make baked caramel apples in the crock pot (really easy), but haven't done it in awhile for no good reason. Might have to resurrect that one.
ReplyDeleteI can testify that your apple bread is FANTASTIC! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love apple season. Will you share your apple bread recipe?!
ReplyDeleteapple bread sounds SO good :)
ReplyDeleteApple bread...hmmm. Yum !
ReplyDeleteIronically, I made one of those hard-work recipes today: chicken curry. And you should definitely post the apple bread recipe unless it's another family secret. :)
ReplyDeleteThe other J
Oh yum...we need at least one show and tell showing off the results of this bakefest. And, can we maybe get recipes.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE the recepie for the crockpot applesauce - I need to make some myself and this sounds super super yummy!
ReplyDeleteYummy! I just made my first apple pie tonight with apples I got from the mountains on Monday. You've given me some great ideas for the few apples I have left.
ReplyDeleteMy hard work recipes are pumpkin bread, fancy cheesecakes, and homemade chicken potpie. They all take a lot of work, but are totally worth it. Especially the pumpkin bread, since it freezes well.
ReplyDeleteAnxiously awaiting my care package full of things to help stop the nausea. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never had apple bread, but it sounds amazing. I bet it makes your house smell like fall goodness.
ReplyDeleteThe apple bread is fantastic and I can't wait to try it out myself!
