Berber or Shag?

In my younger days, it wasn't a common thing for me to visit a carpet store, but the few memories I do have of running through isles of carpet bring memories of exhilaration and fear.

I love the smell of new carpet...it's right up there with new-car-smell and permanent marker. I also love all the different textures....as I would chase my sister through the piles and isles, I'd make sure my hands touched each piece of fabric. That was 10 year old exhilaration!

Then the moment would come where the carpet would drown out every noise. I would turn around and find I was no longer being chased, and I could no longer see my parents talking to the salesman. I was alone and trapped in the middle of the Berber and Shag...that was 10 year old fear.

But then the sound of my mother's voice would break the silence, and I would run towards it as fast as my feet would go. I'd usually run smack into her, and I'd get the look to behave and I'd set off climbing the piles and running all over again...

So what the hell does carpet have to do with my 28 year old self? That same old game of exhilaration and fear.

Exhilaration:
On Monday, we heard Ron's heartbeat
I'm 11 weeks 2 days
Morning sickness--at night.
Ironically, we are getting new carpet in 2 weeks
On August 27th (13 weeks) I will be having a cake celebration for Ron. It's a goal my doctor has set for me, and I'm looking forward to celebrating.
I've put a link on the side, if you wish to see Ron's glamor shots.

Fear:
We did not have an u/s this week, so it's unclear about the status of the hematoma
At our 10 week scan, it was clear I have placenta previa. Let's hope it resolves as my uterus grows...
Not seeing Ron every day. It's easy to become addicted to ultra sounds.
Mook will be out of town all next week--he's my security blanket. I am thankful my family will take turns staying with me!
Getting anxious about the NT testing...I'll be close to 13 weeks when we get the scan (I've already done the blood work) so that Mook can be there.

Truly, each day has been a blessing. I've learned to live life in 24 hour increments, and that's OK with me. Life on bed rest isn't easy--but I always said I'll do whatever it takes. Mook is a great nurse-it's just hard for me to not do more. I miss being more involved in the blog world-miss it terribly. I promise Im not one to disappear after getting 2 lines...I'm just doing my best to follow the dr's orders, and I will be back to full steam ahead as soon as I can...I appreciate you all continuing to check on me-it means so much.

So other than the nighttime sickness (which happens one day and then not the next) I have continued to have lower back pain, and the biggest symptom to date: my runny nose! I'm stuffed up all the time, and have a bloody nose at least once a day. I've read this is not uncommon--and my doctor said its definitely a symptom. Just not a whole lot I can do to cure it...

Thank you again for checking on me. Please go over and give Bee Cee lots of company today...she needs some TLC. She's been SO good to me...love you Bee Cee!

  2. I will be sending you a piece of 13 week cake, JJ. You're doing a fantastic job, you know?

  3. Glad you got to hear Ron's little heartbeat! It's so reassuring. I had the bloody nose thing pretty bad and my doc recommended the saline nose spray. Got me from 2 bloody noses a night to one every few days so declared it a success.

You keep on letting Mook and everyone else take care of you! You're doing an amazing and hard job. You deserve all the TLC and attention you can get

  9. I am with you! I think an ultrasound is in order for every visit!

And I too have placenta previa. Silly me, I thought that'd mean I have more ultrasounds. Ha. But my doctor assured me that it really does resolve itself most of the time as the uterus grows.

Wishing you good thoughts and a comfy, uneventful bedrest!

  10. JJ I am glad you and Ron seem to be doing better. The pictures of Ron are fabulous. I can't believe how far along you are. Keep up the good work.

  11. Just a little tip on the nosebleeds (I had them badly during my twin pregnancy) - try rubbing some vaseline on the insides of your nose. It worked wonders for me!

  12. Been checking frequently... I am glad that you and Ron took the time for glamor shots- but where's the feather boa???? :)

Cheering you on 24 hours at a time! ~Hugs~

I had the bloody/ stuffy nose thing too- it bites!!!

  15. Oh, JJ. I've been thinking of you. So nice to hear how things are going.

Good luck with Mook's absence. You have a whole lot of cyber-support, too.

    Hugs.

  16. I had placenta previa at ten weeks too. It resolved itself by about sixteen weeks.

I think we should band together and buy an ultrasound machine, which will then be sent around the country as needed.

  18. I hated and loved my nausea. Hated it because it made me feel so awful, but loved it because it was my reassurance between scans.

So glad to hear an update from you. And although I wish things were better for you, I'm happy that you and Ron are hanging in there.

  19. (BTW, sorry that was me deleting the comment, wrong blog profile!) JJ, you have been in my prayers and I check here and redbook almost every day - even when my bloglines doesn't say you have an update, I check just in case it's wrong. I'm SO glad to hear you're goin to celebrate at 13 weeks - it'll mean you're in the 2nd tri. But I totally get it. While I've not had anything like what you're experiencing, just losing that first pregnant now makes me celebrate each day and NEVER assume things will go status quo just cuz. IF can do that, huh?

I had nighttime sickness too!!! Night was my worst time!!! The one time I threw up in the morning, I still felt great after it was over! At night I could lay around nauseous and never feel better until I slept.

I also had the stuffy nose. I started to wonder WHY I was waking up every morning and having to blow my nose (as in, I could not possibly sleep again until I did it). Then I read about the symptom. An ah-ha moment!

Stay strong, girl! I have a book recommendation if you want it. It's just about the most amazing book I've read in my life.

  23. Oh, I hope the placenta previa resolves itself. I feel so bad that you've been on bed rest for so long! You are so strong, and I know you would do anything for Ron! Sending good thoughts & I'm excited to hear about Ron's 13 week cake!

  24. Oh JJ! SO darn good to hear from you. I am so pleased to hear the good news about Ron's continued progress.

No worries about hunkering down in order to get through the first trimester. It is a scary time indeed. I think having a cake celebration at 13w is an excellent idea. In fact, I reckon the entire IF blogosphere should have a cupcake in your honor on that day.

Hang in there and use us for support when Mook is away.

  36. Glad to hear you're still hanging in there JJ! 13 weeks will be here before you know it, and I'll have a long talk with Ron and the tell the little one to move that placenta over the next few weeks for you okay? I still have a previa at 24 weeks - one that they saw around 9 or so for me. But at first it was a complete previa, but now is a partial previa. I told our little girl Spot to get busy moving it, maybe she is listening already, LOL! I'll tell Ron to do the same. I still get bleeding from time to time from it- but it's managable and although it's stressful at times I worry a little less now that I know what causes it. Hopefully yours will move as well. If it makes you feel better, my OB said that 90% of 1st tri previas move by the end of the 2nd trim. Now that was music to my ears! Hang tough mama- the resting sucks, but you are doing such a good job. You are already doing so much for your little one, and that is something to be very proud of. ((Hugs))

  38. I'm so glad you and little Ron are hangin in there! I'm thinking about you and praying for you guys daily. As for the stuffed up nose and bloody noses, I suffered from this as well. The only thing that helped was frequent use of saline nasal spray. Keeping those air passages moist helped prevent those out of nowhere awful nose bleeds which caused me much angst during my pregnancy!

  39. Great to hear that things are going well! Soon, soon it will be 13 weeks. I have been thinking of you guys and am glad to see those glamour shots! I had sniffles throughout my pregnancy. I suppose of the symptoms, this is one of the weirder ones... hope the morning sickness isn't too bad.

    Keep hanging in there!

  40. You're doing a great job! My early (really freakin' scary) Previa resolved, so I'm hoping yours does also.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am so stuffy too! I didn't even realize it was a symptom since it started when I was on vacation I assumed I was allergic to something where we are staying.

I think of you and Ron ever day. Bean and I are here for you.

  42. I'm so pleased you're hanging on in there, sweetie.

I so hope the scan goes well and am happy to eat 13 week cake with you!

Glad the Mook is a great nurse. Hang on in there, sweetie.

I had loads of lower back pain which i found very unsettling and kept asking the Dr's about. Just a lot going on down there.

    xx

  43. I'm always thrilled to hear good news from you!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'm so glad you've made it this far! If it makes you feel better, at my NT scan (11 weeks, 1 day), the doctor told me it was too early to be concerned about the position of the placenta, as it was continuing to form and move.

I hope you will enjoy your cake and new carpet!

    ReplyDelete
  45. oh yeah, i remember the stuffy nose thing. so annoying. lets have that be the worst of it from here on out, okay?

  49. Love Ron's glamor shots! Especially his long legs...precious!!

Keep taking good care of yourself, you're doing such an amazing job!!

  50. Just a quick note [I wandered over from Are we there yet (Becky)]. I think from what I read you have a subchorionic hematoma? Right? I had one too! And after 17 weeks bedrest it was finally absorbed and I could enjoy the rest of my pregnancy. I had my big bleed at 11 weeks. And my son is almost 1 (will be Sept 4th). I joined a yahoo group. Search on SCH. They were a lifesaver to me. All of the women on there either have an SCH or had one and are a wealth of information! Good luck!

  55. I'm so happy that you got to hear ron's heartbeat! isn't that the most amazing thing? stay strong, i'll be keeping you in my prayers so as each day goes by ron get's stronger and bigger and the hemotoma gets smaller & placenta previa moves to the right location.

I reread it for the story and I am so happy for the good news

  62. Ron we are all going to have one hell of a party when you get to 13 weeks.

JJ don't worry about the placenta. I had it at 18 weeks and the chances of it still being a problem by the due date are slim. Hey, look at it this way - after going through all of this Ron and your body have to work to move that placenta. It's only fair.

Hang in there hun. I admire the strength you and Ron have. You are both fighters and we are all here behind you!
