This is a compensated review from BlogHer and Jimmy Dean, however the opinions and feelings expressed here are my own.
We are only days away from a brand new year--and every year around this time I find myself saying "I can't believe how fast this year went by!"
2011 is going to start with a running pace: I start a new job (yay!) O-man will be moving up to 4 days-a-week at preschool, Mook's birthday is in January, Oman's 2nd birthday is in early February! Lots of exciting things on the new-year-horizon...but I'm definitely spending the next few days being thankful for 2010...but ready to move on, especially due to the recent unexpected heartache.
And at the end of the year, as corny as it sounds, I look forward to the chance to press the "reset" button on life in general. I get a chance to do things a bit better than I've done them before--it's taken me many years of making resolutions to understand I am never going to reach perfection, but I can make a situation better so that's what I'm aiming for this year. I've already got my list (I told you I love lists!) of things I am going to be working on. By sharing my list, it will help hold me accountable and hopefully encourage some bettering in your neck of the woods, too!
* Better organization: my closet by color
* Better time-spending: letting go of things I can't control
* Better sleeping habits: my bedtime has gotten later and later...
* Better writing: as I mentioned, I didn't blog nearly as much this past year
* Better walking schedule: I've just got to do it, even when it's cold--after I'm done I feel so much better. Treadmill suggestions?
And my biggest betterment goal?
* Better eating habits: I've got an ace in my back pocket for this (I should say an ace in my freezer!) More on this in a minute...
He's a big fan! |
So with all the new things I mentioned starting right along with the new year, I want to make sure and get my day off to a better start. My mom always, always told me breakfast was the most important meal of the day--I just nodded as I ran out the door to catch the bus with a pop tart in my hand. Then I'd be fighting to stay awake by 2nd period. I'm so excited that I've found a new breakfast meal that both Oman and I can enjoy before preschool and work: a Jimmy Dean D-lights breakfast! You can Visit the Official site to see the full line of breakfast items. This is HUGE in our household--since I have an incredibly picky eater on my hands. And I'm not ashamed to say that one of our favorite meals is "Breakfast for Dinner", so knowing I've got options is a good thing.
I've tried multiple diets/exercise plans in the past, usually at the beginning of the year, so I'm really thinking positive about my attitude to just be better and not attempt to skip meals, go on a specific no-chocolate-ever diet. I do know that there are proven scientific ways of making smart food choices to keep me fuller longer, and not reaching for the bag of chips at 2pm: protein. So it's quite the win-win that I will be keeping my freezer stocked with the Turkey Sausage D-lights--and with 19 grams of protein to help give me energy. Yay!
So now that I've confessed all my better-me goals for next year, tell me what your resolutions are, or even if you don't make resolutions--share some of your ways to eat better and exercise--I'm open to suggestions!

I've been thinking about you a lot over the past week. I hope you are taking good care of yourself. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI grew up eating breakfast for dinner. Breakfast food is my favorite. We've fallen into a slump with breakfast since we're usually racing out the door to get to work. Breakfast has been Eggos. We need to start making better choices. Nugget is a big sausage fan, even though neither Cap'm nor I are. We have been venturing out and eating more turkey sausage though. I'm going to look for the JD D-Lights next time I go grocery shopping. I love a hot warm breakfast this time of year.
Thanks for sharing.
In 2011 I plan to Zumba at least 3 times a week and keep a food diary to track my calories.
ReplyDeletemami2jcn at gmail dot com
I hope you are doing better JJ.
ReplyDeleteI love eggs :)
I'm going to try and eat more vegetables. Hitting only 2 a day is not cutting it for me!
I think my eating plan for next year is to try to eat more consistently. I tend to get busy and skip meals.
ReplyDeleteI really need to make a resolution to exercise this year. I HAVE to get my butt in gear.
ReplyDeleteWait, can I comment here AND on Cali's post? XD
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking a lot about eating habits lately, with n almost one and going to be heading into the land of almost-only-real-grownup-food. I'm not sure HOW I'm going to do better, but I need to.
Ugh, I'm taking a cue from my husband and trying to take "one day at a time!" That is almost laughable because I have no idea how you actually do that w/o thinking about the future constantly. I'm determined to take things as they come, not harp too much on what I'm going to do and just live each day. I do plan on getting back to healthier eating habits as soon as this week is over. I took an almost 2 month break from working out and started back up 2 weeks ago. I WILL NOT do that again. And, because of your post I WILL get the D-Lights for Smooch. We have a really hard time choosing food in the morning so this might help!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I tweeted this contest!
I plan to eat more fresh fruit and veggies! tracietrump@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteWell, I want to lose 10lbs this year and I think I need to start eating less processed foods and more veggies. I really want to try to gt the kids to eat more veggies, too! So, obviously, my eating/cooking habits are a big part of my goals for 2011
ReplyDeleteI hope to be more consistent with exercising this year. It always makes me feel better after I do it, but between the FET cycles and moving I just haven't been able to find the time. So, I'm going to start with just a few days a week, maybe Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then work my way up from there.
ReplyDeleteAttempting to lose more weight this year; try to take things more in stride; and get rid of clutter. Will be tweeting this contest.
ReplyDeleteWe have breakfast for dinner once a week - no shame in that!
ReplyDeleteMe? Tackle clutter in our house - for good!
I want to exercise more, I want to apply for my green card and find a new job... a new love would ne also nice :)!
ReplyDeleteIm going to eat healthier.

I don't care what combination of diet and/or exercise makes it happen, but I want to get back in to my size 8 pants (currently in a 9/10).
ReplyDeleteMy goal is to work on snacking less. I can still snack too much if I'm not careful.
ReplyDeleteI just bought some of the Jimmy Dean precooked Sausage crumbles to try in some different recipes. I also love just sausage and an egg.
Your taste-tester buddy is too cute. :)
ReplyDeleteI need to get back to my "water, coffee, and artificially-sweetened tea only" beverage policy. The soda cravings just keep building, and it's such a bad thing.
I also need to find a way to fit exercise in. I'm so full of excuses that I can't fit in my pants anymore.
Hugs!
My thought is if I don't sit on the couch I won't stick to it. LOL
ReplyDeleteI can play in the floor with Katherine but something about that couch just sucks me in.
Also, to get my cardio, I joined a roller derby team. It is working so far!!
I'm going to make healthier choices and maybe sign myself up for a 5K and try the couch to 5k program. We'll see how I do on that second one though ;)
ReplyDeleteI would like to eat more fruits and vegetables, but lately, they're making my mouth and throat itch (all of them!), so maybe I'll just try to cut back on the things that are bad for me. Like cookies.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your list of betterments - hope you can cross them all off in short order!
You have inspired me to start thinking about my resolutions.
ReplyDeleteAfter the amount, I ate in the last week. I think it's a must that I start to cut back on sweets and eat more fresh healthy food. Maybe I will throw in some exercise too.

Eat better and exercise more
ReplyDeleteNo more skipping breakfast! Will be launching my 2011 days off with a healthy start!
ReplyDeleteI have a routine of walking on the treadmill during my tv watching time. there aren't too many shows i like to watch though, so i need to find a way to increase my tv watching. ;) i need to be more regular about getting on the treadmill.
ReplyDeleteI got a fancy slow-cooker for Christmas, so I can be sure to have healthy meals ready for me when I get home from working my 1 or 2 late nights every week. While I usually eat pretty healthy foods, I tend to go for more processed foods when I get home late. No more excuses!
ReplyDeleteI have GOT to start exercising!
ReplyDeleteI am going to start counting my calories.
ReplyDeleteMy resolution this year, as always, is to lose weight. But I mean it this time! I'm trying to eat more nutritious foods and less empty, low-cal snacks (I'm looking at you, 100 Calorie Pack Oreos!).

I am cutting back on carbs as I am now diabetic.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make sure I get some form of exercise every day, and I'm going to try to only eat one helping of my food at mealtimes.
ReplyDeleteI recently joined an exercise program at work that pays for pedometer steps, workouts, etc. That should give me added motivation to exercise throughout the year.

For 2011, I'm planning to quit smoking AND drinking pop. Wish me luck because I'm so going to need it!
ReplyDeleteI've become a breakfast eater as an adult, and am so habitual about my morning noshing that I annoy the heck out of H if I don't get my grub early enough in the day!
ReplyDeleteAs for what I'm "resolving", I suppose it would be to attempt to get more balance in my life-- more time with the hubs, more time with myself, better budgeting, more exercise, and working harder to keep a better schedule for the boys as they grow. We'll see what happens as the year goes on!

What an excellent idea - thanks for this! Cereal just doesn't stick to your ribs and most mornings I don't have time to make good oatmeal. I will be trying these out the next time I go to the store.
ReplyDeleteAs always, work out. It's not even about weight loss (thought that's a perk!) but I ~feel~ better when I exercise. I bought a exercise diary in a bargain bin last year and never used it. I hope that by scheduling my work out days, I will lock myself in.
I made a commitment to exercise more last year and forced myself to get up an hour earlier than I normally would several times a week to go take a walk. Sometimes that meant leaving my house around 6am before my hubs left for work. I now do some form of exercise at least 5 times a week automatically and I love how I feel. This year I plan to eat more fresh fruit.

Overall, my choices I need to make start with having a better ATTITUDE and making me realize I am WORTH the change, the money, the time and effort…to take better care of me. To not let fear of long term health issues run my life. I have not been a healthy eater, and let a rotten schedule even drive THAT (except for dinner). When family is gone I simply dont take the time to care and eat right…I will try in 2011 to change that! No more skipping meals during the week! I know it’s not healthy and would NEVER let my kids do this!
ReplyDeleteI also need to exercise and stop saying I CANT just because I am not able to physically do what I USED to do. I know I CANT do a mile run but I CAN start with a quarter mile run on the treadmill. I CAN do some floor exercises and CAN do some video dance games with my kids...even if I cant do it all the way through. I have to try...

I am absolutely going to start exercising again- standing while eating doesn't count anymore.

I have to make some changes. Mentally & physically!
ReplyDeleteMy clothes don't fit....I feel worn out all the time and I seem to be living on stress.
I must focus and get it together.
I plan to get more sleep, and join an exercise class.
ReplyDeleteI went for 2 resolutions this year. The first was to wear more earrings -- super easy! The second is to be nicer in my words. This one is difficult, but it makes me a happier person overall. Thanks! sbcashortie at hotmail dot com

ReplyDeleteMy main goal this year is to find and do something that I love to do that will also make money. So far, I am loving learning to cook better. Not sure how to translate than into making money, yet, though!

I have a resolution to lose 45 pounds. My goals are to lose one pound a week by eating less food overall, more real foods, and exercising at least 4 times a week.
ReplyDeleteMy main goals are simple - better habits. For each person in my life I chose one:
ReplyDeleteOldest son, C: get better about every night brushing his teeth instead of just when we remember.
Youngest son O: More reading books at bedtime, since his older brother isn't interested I need to establish that in him!
Husband: Work on my patience and attitude. This is pretty big, not so specific. But specifically I want to work on getting out of the "what's fair" mindset versus just doing what we do and not keeping track.
Me: Watch my portions and go to Zumba as often as I can. No specific weight loss goal, just cutting down portions.
Family: Eat at home more. Not necessarily "healthy eating" but just more meals cooked and eaten at home.
I think it's doable, right? A pipe dream goal would be really sticking to a budget and pay down at least one big debt this year. And coupon. We'll see...
I always felt weird that I didn't know how to swim so this year I signed up for swimming lessons at our local community college. Not only will I learn a new skill, I'm hoping to get healthier with some much-needed exercise.
ReplyDeleteWish me luck, my Navy Seal training starts next month. I'm hoping to be a lean, mean swimming machine by summer.

I'm going to be a better friend-- this year I am going to meet up for lunch, brunch or coffee with friends whom I've lost contact with.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be a better.. person-- I am impatient. I am going to learn to be more patient and understanding, impatients and rushing about doesn't always make a situation better.
I'm going to be a better designer -- i'm going to take classes to hone and widen my skills.
Thank you for wonderful post, I don't think I could ever color code my closet, even if i did i wouldnt be able to maintain it haha. :)*
I am wanting to get back to my walking routine again. I have already started this year, trying to fix healthier meals for my family.
ReplyDeleteI love the D-lights :)

I need to get out and walk more. I sit for hours at a time at my job. There is a park across the street from my house with a walking trail. I need to use it more often.

I am bringing an apple or yogurt with me to work for breakfast every day so I don't snack in the morning. I am also slowly adding in some jogging to my daily long walks and I'm loving it! Thanks.
