Real post coming soon...
In the meantime, I once again come to you asking for assistance. Cause right now, I'm saying this a lot:
This may border on TMI, but it's necessary to explain my OUCH issue....
I am having shooting pain, pinching feelings in the vaginal wall area--even creeping into the labia area. It's very low, not AF type cramps, but very much so in my vaginal area. I did go to my doctor on Tuesday: he checked my cervix (long and closed) and took a urine sample--which came back "ugly" so they have sent it off for further results--which are not back yet. He saw no issues in the exam, and even took a peek with an ultrasound. No areas of concern--but I do have to say that I may have jinxed Voldy--it's grown again. FRICK! It now resembles a hot dog (it's because Im eating those hot dogs--ahhh!)--its still measuring .9 in one way, but in the other direction it's stretched long. Could be because of Ron growing and putting pressure on it--and it's also right next to the placenta--which still covers my cervix. Not a whole lot I can do....
Anyway...so I left Tuesday at least reassured that everything was OK--but now the pain more frequent--to the point it's waking me up at night, and is sooo painful. So I called back this morning--even though they dont have my urine culture back, the doc thinks it could be bladder related, causing me to have "bladder spasms" Now of course I can't get my prescription until tonight when I head home (since Im back at work today!) so I have to wait a bit longer. Im hooooping it is bladder related--but I don't have the typical UTI symptoms--I can pee fine, no pain, none of that.
I'm trying not to worry about it affecting Ron--but it's just plain painful and annoying--can't find a comfortable position at all. Again, not constant, but when it starts its a pulsing feeling and when I picture it visually, it's like taking a gong to a drum--that type of vibrating pain. Am I making sense? Just to clarify too, it's not in the area that the "typical" round ligament pain would happen--I got the doc to point out where that would occur. But could it still be stretching, blood flow, pressure?
Any help at all or suggestions appreciated.
Edited to add: MrsSpock gave it a perfect description: it feels like knives!
I have no assvice for ya hun, but I am thinking of you!
ReplyDeleteWell I can tell you two things...I had those pains...and well they stink. They do go away eventually.
ReplyDeleteThe second is that I had a UTI without even knowing it....very minimal symptoms...and it was pretty bad according to the culture. Very common during pregnancy.
I know the pains stink...and I am glad you have gone to the doctor about them (I did, no matter how many times I was told they were round ligament), for piece of mind. They will go away I promise, but do get all the comfort you need mentally in the meantime.
Keep us posted!!!
My friend talked about pains that she called "lightning" that sound like what you're describing. I have no experience with it though, so no advice to offer. Just sending prayers and hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt is completely possible to have a UTI without the usual symptoms. In the hospital, the usual first sign of a UTI in the elderly is confusion- not burning, frequency, or urgency. One of the reasons they check your urine with every visit is to check for a UTI, as well as protein spillage. If the culture is positive- there's the likely culprit. I had stabbing pains down in the south pole while pregnant and had a million extra cervix checks because of it. The midwife would ask "Is it like knives in the vagina?" Why yes. "Then it's ligament pain"
ReplyDeleteThe awful thing is, 4 months after birth I still have it- but that's because of my fibromyalgia.
I had the same shooting pains you described. My doc said it was due to the stretching and pressure happening down there. I asked him why the heck doesn't book tell you that you will have 'unexplained' hoo-haa pains. They hurt so much but they did subside after a few weeks followed by a new set of odd pains :) Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteI had a UTI w/o having any symptoms or signs. I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteI also had those weird pinchy/stretchy/hurty pains as you described - They would come and go in different weeks
I am thinkong of you and hoping they go away soon
I definitely had those too. I think my OB said they were probably partially round ligament pains, partially scar tissue from the previous c-section. They SUCKED. Big time. It hurt the worst any time I moved. Whether it was getting up from a chair, or rolling over in bed. Ouch. ;(
ReplyDeleteAnd booo for Voldy growing bigger. Bad Voldemort! Good luck, and keep us updated. Thinking of you every day!
Oh yes, my friend and I talked about these pains all the time as we both had them. Hers were like stabbing pains and mine were like lightning bolts that struck sharp and then throbbed through my nether regions. And whether it is correct or not, the drs. do call that round ligament pain. It went away around 20 weeks. I also had previa that eventually resolved itself by 28 weeks. Oh, and IVF w/ICSI. :-) Pregnancy can be painful. haha!
ReplyDeleteNot a clue but hoping that whatever it is goes away soon and that the antibiotics clear up that UTI.
ReplyDeleteHoping and praying for you, JJ, that you get some relief and some answers soon. Everyone is right about the UTI/bladder infection thing - sometimes they can present really strangely. Here's my assvice: If it is bladder related and you're not already taking a probiotic supplement, I would really recommend one. Acidophilus capsules are available in good health food stores and should always be stored in the fridge - if they're on the shelf in the shop don't get them. Acidophilus can help restore bacterial balance in your body, and is really helpful if you're on antibiotics, cause it will replenish the good bacteria. Good yogurt and stuff will contain the probiotics, but not usually in enough quantity to really help when you have an infection or are otherwise out of balance.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, and you are always in my thoughts and prayers.
I have the same kind of pains. I was freaking out telling DH that I had an incompetent cervix. It does feel like knives stabbing me in my vaginal walls.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you're in such pain!! I had those exact types of pains with my recent UTI. Hopefully that it and it can be knocked out with an antibiotic!!! Now, Voldy...GO AWAY!!!!! Hugs, my dear!!
ReplyDeleteNo assvice here...but wanted you to know I'm thinking about you. I've been out of town for a couple weeks so I am just catching up. Glad you are off bedrest!
ReplyDeleteI have nothing helpful to say. Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you and hoping this stabbing pain is something that the docs can do something about.
ReplyDeleteI have no advice, but I just wanted to let you know that I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteOh, hun...I'm so sorry things keep happening to freak you out or cause you pain. Damn Voldy!! He doesnt know it, but I'm giving him the proverbial stink eye right now!!
ReplyDeleteHope everything clears up soon.
Keep us posted
I have no useful assvice, sorry. I had 600 million round ligament pains, but they don't extend down into the vaginal wall. I hope they figure it out soon and that it goes away quickly!
ReplyDeleteI had pains like that to when I was pregnant. It ended up being a UTI. I was shocked because I didn't have any burning or more frequent bathroom trips.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's the case for you and the antibotics take care of it quickly!
Ouch sounds about right! Hope things settle down soon down there!
ReplyDeleteOh God JJ... can't you catch a break??? I mean.. come on.. This sucks.
ReplyDeleteFeel better hon. I am thinking of you!
I have that pain, too. It drives me nuts. My doc just says it is nerve pain from baby kicking and/or the uterus stretching.
ReplyDeleteI too have no assvice, but I hope you get to feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI sure don't know what that is, but I hope you find some relief soon!
ReplyDeleteI've got assvice!
ReplyDeleteI've had pains in that general area for a while, but not in that exact area. It's pain in my pubic bone, though. Not sure if that's it, but it's hard to get comfortable when it's acting up. And it sure as hell feels like someone's stabbing me...ugh.
As far as the possible bladder/UTI issues...I've tons and tons of history with that. I've had quite a few of those that never had any urgency or pain with urination, but merely had a throbbing pain down there. And when you're talking about down there, it's all so close together that it definitely was felt in the labia, too. Constant, throbbing, pulsing pain. And of course I couldn't get comfortable with that (and talk about irritable...ugh).
I hope the doc can give you some sort of good answer, soon@
Oh yeah, I forgot to say this...
ReplyDeleteBOOO VOLDERMORT!!!
I had the shooting pains in my vagina during the early part of my second trimester... As someone who worries CONSTANTLY, I went to see TWO different doctors about it. Both said the same thing: Round ligament pain! They did, however, also check me for bacterial vaginosis and urinary tract infection. As you get closer to your due date, the stabbing pain in your vagina has less to do with round ligament stretching, and more to do with your cervix starting to change...
ReplyDeleteCould be either bladder related (although that usually wouldn't radiate to the labia), or round ligament related (even if not classic for it according to your doc)- I got lots of stabbing pains that radiated to the labia, as well as being as tender as heck on either side of the lower segment of my uterus upon palpation. It's common for round ligament pain to radiate in that pattern (as it passes through the sides of the groin and ends up in the labia- did you know it's the female remnant of the cord which would direct a testis into the scrotum if you were a boy? Embryology is fascinating!), which is suggestive.
ReplyDeleteThe other things to rule out are non gynae things like a hernia or a kidney stone although they sound less likely.
It's so hard to guess what it might be over the net :)
J
Dear JJ, I had the same kind of pain and every time it was UTI (I had many of them)... they suck but can be easily treated with no problems for the baby
ReplyDeleteHugs
25 people have probably said this, but UTI's cause different symtoms in pregnant women--usually contractions. Weird eh?
ReplyDeleteOh goodness..I'm so sorry. It seems like it's always something when pregnant.
ReplyDeleteIt's weird how different certain things feel while you're pregnant. Earlier this pregnancy, I had this really odd, uncomfortable pinching feeling that kept getting worse and worse. Everyone kept saying it was round ligament pain, which apparently is just what people say anytime you have a pain during pregnancy, but I knew it wasn't b/c first of all, it was not in the right place. It almost felt like someone was either pinching my bladder or somewhere really high in my vagina. Anyway...it turned out to be a yeast infection gone bad. I've had yeast infections before, and I never had those symptoms.
I hope yours is easy to figure out and they get you on some antibiotics ASAP!!
Don't know if any of this will make you feel better, but
ReplyDelete1) IVF ICSI
2) Bleeding at 8 weeks, subchrioinic hematoma
3)Didn't have a UTI, but had what I referred to as "vaginal charley horses" in the transition from first to second trimester. Doc said it was the stretching.
4) Rug rat arrived safe and sound.
Take care of yourself.
hey a thought. . . could be a uti because of all the bedrest. having to be inactive could have brought something like that on. hopefully the culture will bring light to the subject. for relief have you tried either a warm compress or pad? sometimes some warmth is a relief. love to you.
ReplyDeleteClassically, pain radiating into the labia does make me think "kidney stone" but the rest of your description doesn't quite fit. Is it on both sides, or just one?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds really uncomfortable and I hope it goes away really really soon.
I don't have any advice, just hoping for you that it gets better!
ReplyDeleteI had that too, it was varicose veins in my labia. I used a topical pain relief spray. They went away a few months after the birth. Pants were painful.
ReplyDeleteWell, you def. have an infection, since the culture was "ugly", so I would think that would explain some of the pain...then again, maybe it's just occurring at the same time you're growing and there's not a way to tell until one of them resolves.
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I hope you get feeling better and that Voldemort behaves himself and gets the hell out of dodge real soon.
HUGS
I'm thinking it could be a UTI? That combined with Ron growing could be causing you all sorts of sensations too. I hope everything is good! xo
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking its a UTI as well. Hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteHoping that the knife like pain goes away soon! I'm glad you got to get back into the "normal swing" of things - even if just a bit like going to work. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers that the rest of the pregnancy is smooth sailing.
ReplyDeleteJJ! I am sooo sorry I have been MIA. I'll explain in a post soon.
ReplyDeleteWanted to wish you a wonderful 13 weeks. I was beyond happy to read your post and the cake, oh the cake! Yum! Making it out of the first tri is a huge hurdle cleared.
I do not have any assvice for you but as far as I am concerned any nagging feelings down "there" during pregnancy warrant a call and a trip to the OB. I am glad you aren't just putting up with them. Hope you get a solution soon.
Ooooooh - I think I know too well what you are talking about. Sometimes during pregnancy, but mostly for the first year after delivery, I would get terrible cramps that felt like gaudy old screw-on earrings on the labia. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThe good news is that it did go away eventually. I hope it's "good pain" (growing, stretching, accomodating) instead of anything having to do with the hot dog. Best wishes to you!
I'm hopeful it's "just" a urinary tract thing. Fingers crossed they can make the knives go away.
ReplyDeleteBea
I have no idea where the pain is coming from, but I am thinking of you and hoping it goes away quickly! HUGS!
ReplyDelete:-( that sounds horrible. you need your rest. I hope they fix it fast.
ReplyDeleteHey woman:-) Hope you're feeling better!?
ReplyDeleteI tried to leave a comment over on IF Diaries and it wouldn't let me. I was trying to tell Briana that I'm interested...not that I think I'm good or entertaining enough...just puttin' myself out there. Is there any way for you to reach her?
I had the exact same kind of pain, I think, when I was pregnant with the triplets. It sucked, but I had it every time I had a UTI (2-3 times). So I'd bet it's related.
ReplyDeleteSorry Voldy's being stubborn...
Hope you're feeling better now!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you are having those nagging pains! Hopefully the doctor's office gets back to you quickly and you can take something to relieve the pain. Thinking of you...
ReplyDeleteI had them, and they told me it was RLP..they would shoot from my thighs into my vagina area and if I sat too long (Our commute) and then tried to get out of the car etc , I would get these horrible pains. They came and went my whole pregnancy, and I hated them every time.
ReplyDeleteI also had a UTI w/o symptoms and was given the antibiotics and they really helped.
good luck, thinking about ya.
