Brought to you by: The Letter P

P is for PARENTING

I think the whole idea of "parenting" sort of sat on the back burner as Mook and I were actually trying to become parents.

I fully realize we are O-man's parents, but so far, I don't feel as if I have actually done the act of parenting. I take care of him, love him, and am doing my best to teach him things...but I'm actually getting anxious about being a PARENT to him.

Things I see on the 6 o'clock news are enough to make me a Nervous Nelly for the rest of my parenting life--everything you teach your kid today, is not going to be the thing to teach them tomorrow.

I accept the fact that I will make mistakes and that he will go through a phase where he thinks I am the most uncool person on the planet.

So I will FULLY take advantage of every moment to be a cool and wanted parent.

  1. A glimpse into the future ..... my 16yr old, 6' 2", 175lb son still sits on my lap. He still hugs me in public and introduces me to his friends, most have made me a Facebook friend. When he spends the night out he calls or texts me to let me know he is in by curfew and tells me he loves me. We have a close relationship and communicate really well. The parenting part comes in steps and I for one and grateful that no one issues pass/fail grades. Just as children grow in stages we as parents do the same. You will make mistakes, you will go to bed some nights thinking you are the suckiest parent, but most nights you will go to bed thankful for your amazing child/children and in awe that you haven't screwed them up to bad. Best advice I would give a new parent - Do what works for you and your child and always be honest, kids can tell when parents aren't telling the truth

I do have a 12yr old daughter ... seems to be a whole nother ballgame. She only walks with me in the mall if we are shopping for her, and she rolls her eyes at any clothing I pick for her. I'm pretty sure its a girl child thing.

Keep enjoying your special boy. My wish for you is that he will still sit in your lap when he is 16 :)

  2. We are AWESOME parents because we love our children enough to question how good a parent we will be.

  3. I have been laughing at myself lately because in eight short weeks, I've gone from watching Birth Day and Special Delivery to watching Super Nanny everyday.

I totally agree with you. I never spent a lot of time thinking about ~parenting~ exactly. There are so many things I want to teach him and want him to experience. I guess all I can do is my best!

  4. I know what you mean, right now, as hard as it can be at times, is the easy part. The caring for and them needing us without thought. The *parenting* comes next.

There is nothing like a good pair of jeans; they shape us, support us and make us look our best. I'd love for you to share your jeans with me!
