Up and Down

I've been up and down these stairs hundreds of times.

Running up to avoid being late to school.
Down to play Barbies in the basement.
Up to sit at the dinner table.
Down to watch a movie with friends.

I know the sounds of the floor boards; the steps to avoid as you attempt to keep anyone else in the house from knowing you're up.

Watching Oman learn how to go up and down on these stairs--the stairs I grew up on, is yet another thing that is so simple, but means so much to me. Loved being able to watch my mom guide him down each step--just as she did with me--literally and figuratively.

Are there stairs/floors/doors that you know are being occupied in your house/home you grew up in, just by the noise they make?

Enjoy a glass of Beringer White Zinfandel for tonight's Virtual Wine Club.

  1. How cool is that!? Go O-Man!

I used to sneak down on the stairs to watch my parents watch t.v. I knew all the creaks and squeeks and (usually) avoided them. Sometimes I would hit one--and I could tell my dad knew I was there...um, mainly cuz he would yell up "Go to Sleep, Delenn!!"

  2. I wish I knew. We lived in 3 houses growing up so I can only hope that someone is enjoying them as much as I did. The house I remember the most in Virginia though also had that creeky step and I always made sure to miss it. :)

  3. I love this. I love how you write about the little things. Reflect on their importance and the impact they had on your life.

    Such sweet memories to have.

  4. I'm jealous you get to go home to your house. My mom sold our house about ten years ago, and it never feels like home to go to her house for holidays. It's still family and food and tradition that's the same, but it's not the room I grew up in...I like the romanticism of that!

  5. I know just what you mean! There are things that I didn't realize meant so much to me until Skeeter began to enjoy them.

  6. Oh I just love this post. Your picture is just precious.

I know your parents enjoyed their time w/you!

There is nothing like a good pair of jeans; they shape us, support us and make us look our best. I'd love for you to share your jeans with me!
